What - if anything - do you remember from the night you won PPA Editor of the Year?
The first time I won (1999 for Prima) I was a relatively new editor and it was a complete surprise. I had far too much to drink, lost my award and had to have it biked to me the following morning. The second time (GH, 2015) was 16 years later and obviously I had matured in the intervening years to become an Editorial Director as well as an editor but... it was still a huge surprise, I had far too much to drink and, yes, mislaid my award!
What was your favourite single front cover during your time as Editor and why?
Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without Good Housekeeping and producing our all-important December covers was like directing a small film… December 2016 even features a dog - never work with animals or children, they say but we did both. And it sold brilliantly!
Looking back as a PPA award-winning Editor, what advice would you now give yourself when you were starting out in our industry?
Magazines are a fantastic business and being an editor is a blessing - every single day. Your worst day as an editor is still better than your best day doing anything else. I realised that quite early on and have nothing but gratitude for my 22 years as an editor.
